program description

The Supports Waiver is a Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) program, which allows recipients to receive in-home services instead of institutional care. Several services are provided under this waiver, including adult day habilitation and Respite (or direct support professional) services to provide constant supervision and companionship for the individual when their family support system is not available.

  • We provide companion services, including supervision or assistance with in-home and/or community activities that allow the recipient to reside in his/her home
  • We also offer Adult Day Habilitation services in the Baton Rouge region

eligibility

  • Individuals in the following groups are served in priority:
    • Individuals who were receiving state general funded vocational and habilitation services through the Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (OCDD) as of March 31, 2006
    • Individuals who were listed as waiting for the services listed above prior to May 31, 2006
  • Individuals on the Developmental Disability (DD) Request for Services Registry (RFSR) are eligible for services by date of request. They must meet all of the following criteria:
    • Be 18 years and older with a developmental disability which manifested prior to age 22
    • Meet the Louisiana definition for development disability
    • Meet the income and resources guidelines set by the Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH)
    • Meet the requirements for institutional care in an Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (ICF/DD)

2010 income and resource limits

  • The monthly income limit is up to 3 times the SSI (Supplemental Security Income) amount
  • For this program, the home where the applicant lives, the car used to drive to medical appointments, and other basic resources are not taken into account to estimate the resources:
    • Single people can have no more than $2,000 in resources.
    • Resources are limited to $3,000 for couples where both spouses need ICF/DD level of care.
