In Home Personal Care Services for Individuals with Disabilities May Be at Risk!

The past fiscal year, from July 1, 2009–June 30, 2010, has been one of the most difficult years for our agency. Throughout 2009 and 2010, we experienced rate cuts to the majority of our Medicaid services which resulted in a reduction in revenue close to 7%. Throughout the past fiscal year, we have been proactive in finding ways to cut expenses without impacting consumer services or employee pay rates. However,with all our efforts to reduce expenses, due to the rate cuts, we still ended the fiscal year with a sizeable deficit.

We now expect to have another substantial rate cut from the State for this current fiscal year. We are anticipating the cut to be between 2% and 5%. Each region is diligently working to find creative ways to absorb the reduction in revenue. Gulf Coast Teaching Family Services is committed to minimizing the impact these rate cuts may have on our consumers and our employees. We are confident that we will overcome this challenge through careful planning.
