CARSA Rally to Stop the Cuts Now 05/29/2009
Hundreds of people wearing red tee-shirts gathered yesterday afternoon in front of the steps of the State Capitol in Baton Rouge. The rally, organized by CARSA (Community and Residential Services Association), regrouped citizens from all parts of Louisiana. They joined together to get the attention of legislators to restore the 3.5% cuts issued in February, and eliminate the proposed additional 7.16% cuts in the 2009-2010 budget. HB1, that has been amended to restore the 3.5% cuts and eliminate the proposed 7.16% cuts, must be passed by both the Senate and the House and signed by the Governor. With revenue projections for the 2009 – 2010 fiscal year being reduced by $30 million earlier this week, the revised HB 1 is at risk.
Like other service providers, GCTFS staff (from Baton Rouge, Houma, New Orleans and Central Office) and clients were present to voice their concerns.
